Oregon Scientific Thermometers – A great Grill Tool!

At first thought, a talking meat thermometer for the grill seemed pretty frivolous and then I tried it. After trying the Oregon scientific thermometers out over the 4th of July I have to say I’m hooked. Yes, I do love gadgets, but it was very useful as well.

I had a brisket on the smoker the day of the party that I wanted to be juicy and tender for a crowd. It’s hard for me to tell when meat on the smoker is done just right. The color isn’t an indicator and I don’t like to poke at it and release the juices I’m working so diligently to keep inside. I used to use a regular Oven Meat Thermometer, but that also meant that I had to repeatedly picking up of the smoker or grill to check on the thermometer and that would let the heat out.

The wireless talking bbq thermometer sounded like a fun solution. It has a 6 inch Stainless Steel probe to insert into the food that’s cooking. Stick the probe into the meat (or fish or whatever) and run the 40 inch wire outside the oven or grill. The sensor will display the current temperature of the meat ranging from 32 to 575 degrees. It’s easy to check it at a glance with no need to open up the oven or grill.

If you don’t want to hover around the oven or grill to keep checking on dinner, the remote measures 3-2/5 by 3-2/5 by 1-1/5 inches and can receive the signal from 330 feet away. I really liked that I spent more time visiting with friends and family than I did checking on dinner. With the remote in my pocket I didn’t feel like I had to keep such a close eye on things dinner to see how far along they were. The remote was set to tell me when the food was “almost done” and then “done”.

Of course, I had done a test run with the Oregon scientific thermometers before the party on a pork tenderloin on the grill. I was pleased to see how accurate it was and how tender and juicy the meat came out. With the testing out of the way, I felt relaxed to let the talking thermometer do the work at the party and tell me when the food was “almost done”, so I could get my platter, etc out to take the food off the smoker.

Where I can get an outdoor cart / stand to go by my barbecue – OnSale in Canada?

I am looking for a car, preferably a folding cart, similar to the grill Butler sold in Sur La Table. However, I need to be available (and not a trillion dollars) to send to Canada. Do you have an outdoor table or stand or car like this? Where'd you get that?

Home Depot or Lowes and sells

Can I use fake logs (compressed wood) in portable outdoor fire pits?

There should be no problem with doing this. Fake logs are compressed sawdust. Usually nothing more is added, but occasionally wax. Fumes from these logs shouldn’t be much different than ordinary firewood. I wouldn’t enjoy breathing them in, but I certainly would roast marshmallows over the fire. Duraflame says not to cook with them, but doesn’t cite toxic fumes as a reason. Check out the links below.

What do i do with a dog that eats shoes, pants, grill covers, more shoes, digs giant holes, and chew any thing

He will chew any thing he gets his paws on. I NEED HELP PLEASE
I have a golden retriver and we’ve tried the crate, smacking him, yelling at him and we really hate to do that t’s just came down to that and we can’t take him on walks because he runs to fast and barks to the piont where we just have to go home and i might try the spray but we never catch him in the act so if we spray him after that he won’t know what it’s for and yes he’s still a puppy and the cutiest and very smart puppy but he just always has to chew things and we got him a toy and he just plays with it for about 30 seconds then goes to the next thing
Also i don’t think he’s bored because we have another beautiful golden that he can play with and i don’t know why he won’t learn from her example she’s a very good dog so i wish he would learn from her

Crate him when he is unsupervised. I learned the hard way. My dog chewed through an air conditioning cord and also chewed on my expensive shoes – but left my ex’s work boots alone.

The dog had taste. :)

Beach Fire Pits in California?

I live in L.A. and I want to host a beach bonfire party. What is the closest beach to this area that has fire pits avaiable. if you have information about how you reserve it please include
thankkkyouu(:

The following beaches have fire pits, listed from north to south:

Mother’s Beach, Marina Del Rey (no waves here, though)
Dockweiler Beach, by LAX
Cabrillo Beach, San Pedro
Bolsa Chica (just north of Huntington Beach)
Huntington Beach (City Beach AND State Beach)
Corona Del Mar Beach

Note that beach fire pits are expensive to maintain, and with money being so tight, many are being phased out. This list is accurate to the best of my knowledge at this time.
